We Built What We Wished Existed

Walko Danl started from frustration with an education system that produced graduates who couldn't actually do the work. We decided to fix that.

In 2019, our founders were hiring managers at technology companies across Singapore. Every month, they interviewed dozens of candidates with impressive credentials—degrees from reputable universities, certificates from well-known online platforms, portfolios filled with course projects.

And every month, the same problem emerged. These candidates couldn't handle ambiguity. They froze when requirements weren't perfectly specified. They struggled to debug code they hadn't written. They couldn't explain their technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.

The gap wasn't talent or intelligence. It was preparation. Traditional education—even modern online courses—wasn't teaching what employers actually needed.

"We kept rejecting candidates who clearly had potential but lacked practical readiness. Eventually we asked: what if we trained them ourselves, the way we wished they'd been trained?"

A Different Approach to IT Education

Walko Danl was founded on a simple premise: design the curriculum backward from what hiring managers actually evaluate.

We interviewed over 50 technical leads, engineering managers, and CTOs across Singapore's tech ecosystem. We asked them to walk us through their interview processes, their evaluation criteria, and the specific moments when candidates impressed or disappointed them.

What we learned shaped everything about our programs. The emphasis on portfolio projects that mirror real work. The focus on communication skills alongside technical ability. The integration of agile workflows and code review practices from day one.

Our Teaching Philosophy

Every concept is taught through application. We don't lecture for hours, then assign homework. Students encounter problems first, struggle productively, then receive guidance.

This mirrors how learning happens in actual tech jobs. Nobody hands you a manual and waits for you to memorize it. You're given a task, expected to figure out what you don't know, and supported as you work through challenges.

It's harder than passive learning. It's also dramatically more effective.

Our Commitment

We measure success by one metric: employment outcomes. Not completion rates. Not satisfaction surveys. Not the number of certificates issued.

When a graduate lands their first tech role, that's our success. When they get promoted, that's our success. When they come back years later to mentor the next cohort, that's our success.

This focus shapes every decision we make—from which technologies to teach, to how we structure projects, to the companies we partner with for placement.
